Sunday Question for Conservatives

Which candidates would you like to be invited to participate in the debates coming up in September?

I believe the list of possibilities includes Perry, Romney, Bachmann, Santorum, Gingrich, Paul, Cain, and Huntsman, who are all in fact invited to the Reagan Library debates, as well as Gary Johnson, Buddy Roemer, Thaddeus McCotter, Fred Karger, and Roy Moore, although as usual there are quite a few even more obscure ones.

  1. Gary Johnson should definitely be included.

Roemer, McCotter, Karger and Moore are more marginal, but I wouldn't mind hearing what they have to say.

  2. More liberal here, but I'd like to hear more of Gary Johnson too. Of all the candidates who are marginal in the polling, he has the best qualifications.

  3. Perry, Romney, Bachmann, Paul, and maybe Cain and Santorum.

Gingrich isn't running a serious campaign and Huntsman's is a train wreck. Not credible, and not worth including.

A Romney-Perry debate would be interesting - and maybe more worth listening to as well.

  4. Yeah to Johnson. At first glance, he seems a bit squirrelly of temperament, but some time on the big stage might let us see what he's really made of.

Never heard of Karger or Moore, so pass on those.

I probably would have never heard of McCotter either, if he wasn't my congressman. I'd pass on him as well. A somewhat eccentric political hack, by my lights. That combo just wouldn't work in that job.

Roemer I've seen around a bit. Throw him in for color. Get rid of Santorum and Huntsman, if you need to make room. I suspect Huntsman could do the job, but I thought that about Pawlenty as well, and he's gone, and Huntsman will be too, shortly, I suspect.

  5. Johnson beat Huntsman and Santorum and tied Herman Cain in the most recent CNN poll. Weigel's analysis pretty much sums it up:

"It's increasingly silly that Johnson isn't included in debates. Even if this poll is a statistical aberration, one cannot say that he has any less support than the very well-covered Huntsman; one can only say he has less renowned campaign strategists."
